Artist’s Statement
“METAPHORICAL FUNCTION” is a term I use to describe a key element in my work, the dovetailing of sculptural form with the innate potential for usefulness that three-dimensional objects possess. In this scenario, art is recycled into a prosaic, functional object, such as a toy, tool, or garment, and then activated through touch and let loose in the world. Inanimate objects earn something akin to a soul over time as they become transformed through interaction with a viewer/participant, whether human, animal, or plant. The relationship between the animate and inanimate and the effect they have upon each other fascinates me; the energetic space between the two is where understanding and growth coexist.
